MUMBAI: Dil Laga hitmaker Sukhbir Singh also known as the ‘prince of Bhangra’ was recently spotted at Bollywood Hungama Spotlight, having a great time. Radioandmusic connected with him soon after to capture his musical journey and more.
The singer who was raised in Kenya and stayed there for 20 years before moving to Dubai says, “In Kenya, I was exposed to a different world of music. I started as a band and a Keyboard player. Eventually, I started as a one-man show, where I started playing my own music and then I started releasing my own singles.”
Kenya did influence Singh’s music, but it was his father who introduced him to the art. “My dad is a classically trained vocalist. He invested a lot of time in me. He used to always motivate and encourage me to do my riyaz everyday, but I was too young to understand it. I grew up to learn its importance and became more disciplined. So, the knowledge which I had to get at that point in my life came from my dad,” narrates the singer.

Dil Laga was one of the biggest hit songs of the Dhoom franchise and Singh did croon the track. Revealing the story behind the track the singer says, “I first went to Yashraj studios to get my album released but then they actually told me that they had a song for me. Practically there was no struggle recording the song, also we were done within two days. The first day I practiced with Pritam Chakraborty and then the next day we just went straight to the recording studio and recorded the song.”
Lastly, Singh says “After remaking Gal Ban Gayi, which is one of my oldest songs, I am all set to comeback with original songs and I am working on a few tracks. For a change, I am trying to create a few slow-going easy songs. We feel that there is a strong market for slow Punjabi songs and not necessarily only dance numbers in Punjabi songs. While I am all excited to release these songs, I would love to see the reaction from the audience.”
