MUMBAI: Following a long and tedious battle, music label T-Series has managed to get an injunction order against Asianet Communications Ltd from a Delhi court.
T-Series has asked Asianet to follow IPRS norms and either pay or stop using Hindi songs (of which T Series has acquired rights) in the channel’s popular reality-based show. This is the second time T-Series has secured legal action against a TV channel. In December 2008, the label got a court injunction against Marathi channel Mi Marathi for using copyrighted songs without proper license fees.
T-Series president – marketing, media and publishing (TV) Vinod Bhanushali tells Indiantelevision.com, We have noticed that Asianet is allowing contestants of their reality shows to sing popular Hindi songs, which falls under our IPR. We asked them to pay for that or stop using them….

HMJ Hima Kohli, on an appeal by T-Series against Asianet for consideration and injunction, granted an ex-parte injunction thereby restraining Asianet from broadcasting and telecasting T-Series content in any manner whatsoever till the next date of 22 January 2009.
Bhanushali further says, We pay huge amount of money not only to acquire but also on promotions of music. So it is important that it makes money for the music companies.”
