MUMBAI: Breaking its earlier records, the biggest EDM music festival Sunburn held in Condolim last December contributed a whooping sum of Rs 11.6 million towards entertainment tax.
Sharing the tax figures with Radioandmusic.com, Percept MD Shailendra Singh said that Sunburn paid almost 200 per cent hike to the government beating all major entertainment shows held in Goa in terms of paying ‘entertainment tax’ for the financial year 2011-12. The previous editions of the fest has generated entertainment tax to the tune of Rs 39.68 lakhs (2010) and Rs 14.29 lakhs (2009).
After the excise department hiked the liquor license fee in the previous year, the event witnessed a significant rise in the excise fees to Rs 8.4 lakhs from Rs 3,000 in 2009-2010. Percept paid a total of Rs 28,12,500 towards VAT to the government last year.

Riding high on its success, unlike last year Sunburn in its sixth edition will be a week-long extravaganza featuring boutique of live music festivals in North Goa. The 2012 edition will commence with an opening event ‘Windsong’ on 24 -25 December followed by the main event on 27-28-29 December. The musical fest will conclude with a closing ceremony on 31 December, and will also witness the inauguration of Percept’s Superstar New Year’s Eve Gig. A company statement noted that all the information of the 2012 event is subject to obtaining appropriate permissions and licenses for each event, with the support of the Government of Goa.
Speaking about Sunburn 2012, Singh said, “Sunburn 2012 is introducing a unique format this year. The show will feature more than 100 artistes and two new shows Windsong and Superstar New Year’s Eve Gig, which will once again feature a wide array of artistes. Apart from Goa, Sunburn will also be hosted in Delhi and other international countries this year.”
Besides India, the company also plans to host Sunburn in countries like Singapore, Colombo and Jakarta. The event will go live on global digital platforms of over 80 countries.
