MUMBAI: Being a part of Indian independent music for over six years, electro-alterno band â€?Medusa’ is now back with a new identity called â€?Sky Rabbit’. The rechristenized band will officially launch their long due self-titled album â€?Sky Rabbit’ on 10 January under EMI Virgin Records.
The new album will be the first record material of the band, after featuring in 2009 British Soundpad Compilation produced by John Leckie. The quartet has launched multi-city album tour to promote their album across Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi.
Speaking about the long due album, Sky Rabbit said, It took us around three years to get all the material together and come out with a full fledge album. It feels good that the album is finally out. The album is a unique merger of electronica with indie and post-punk styles offering the songs that have gone through various stages of evolution. The sudden name change was quiet a surprise for their fans but it seemed to be an obvious decision for them. The name change had been on the radar for a very long time. Sky Rabbit fits our band and our music. According to us, it’s a name that gives us the freedom to roam and be dynamic,” the band expressed.
Generally, the sudden name change has been a dilemma for several bands due to the identity crisis but Sky Rabbit are quiet confident on their decision. There might be some at an initial stage, but we think it’s just a matter of time. Eventually the name will spread with the help of our music and people will catch on it,… they added.
Sky Rabbit has been popularizing their music through live music since past six years. Over the years the band has witnessed a huge difference in the live music scene which has grown with the support of music aficionados. The band revealed, From the time when we entered the music scene, live music has really grown. There is a big difference in the gig that we played then and now. The scene has become much more organized and professional.”
Even though the live music scene has grown and the new initiatives like ArtistAloud.com and Webcerts are been initiated to familiarize non-film music. The Mumbai-based band reckons that the independent music can be further popularize with the easy availability of venues for live music and a proper slots for non-film music on television and radio which are been dominated by Bollywood.
