MUMBAI: Bollywood singer Shaan was announced as the tobacco control ambassador of India by The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday 10th May.
On the occasion, Shaan also released his new music single â€?Life se Panga Mat Le Yaar’, which sends a message to youth that life without tobacco is worth living The song is composed by Shaan and is written by Rekha Nigam.
The event was organized by Salaam Bombay Foundation and was supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Present at the occasion were Jagadish Kaur – CMO Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Vineet Munish Gill – Tobacco Control officer, BK Prasad – Joint Secretary Ministry of Health from WHO, and cancer patients from Tata Memorial Hospital
Speaking about the occasion, Shaan said, After seeing the efforts and commitment by Salaam Bombay Foundation in transforming the lives of kids impacted by tobacco, I thought there is a lot I could do to further this cause; this is only the beginning. I hope that the youth will internalize and live my message….
Commenting on Shaan’s involvement, Salaam Bombay Foundation, director Padmini Somani said, Shaan is a popular youth icon with a very clean image. It is heartening to know that a star as big as him has come forward to take up this cause. Making a song was the most natural thing to do with him. We know that Shaan propagating this message will have a significant impact in the lives of kids who emulate him….
The music video features Shaan encouraging children to take all problems in their stride and not to make things worse for themselves by consuming tobacco.
The song will be promoted on television channel, music channels and FM stations with the support of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
