MUMBAI: Representing India at the 30th International Jazz Day in New York, Exemplary bollywood singer Shankar Mahadevan will perform a special concert at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations on 30 April.
The UN concert will pay tribute to jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. The concert will witness participation from artistes hailing from all genres of music from every continent. The event will feature artistes like Wayne Shorter, Jack DeJohnette, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock,George Duke, Christian McBride, Jimmy Heath, Hugh Masekela, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Angelique Kidjo, Zakir Hussain and Lang Lang.
Speaking about the concert Mahadevan said, “It is undoubtedly a matter of immense pride and honour to represent India as part of this global peace initiative by the United Nations. Just being in the company of illustrious musicians from all over the world and performing at the UN Assembly before a global audience will be a fantastic experience; one that am really looking forward to. The concert will be a great diplomatic platform facilitated through the universal language of music and I feel blessed to be a worthy representative of my country”
The concert will be streamed live through the United Nations, UNESCO, the United States Department of State and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
