MUMBAI: Music major Saregama plans to increase its market share in the digital space. The label has 15-20 per cent share in the digital music market, worth approximately Rs 6 billion, a top official said.
“The whole point is to actively strive to maintain and increase our market share in the digital space. As front-runners, we have a dedicated team that looks after our products for both the domestic and international markets,” Saregama India business head-music Adarsh Gupta told Radioandmusic.com (RnM).
The label that has more than 100 people in its digital team for the Indian and global markets is tapping into multiple platforms to maintain the edge as a front-runner.It’s focus areas are- WAP , CRBT, Moble Radio, Internet based services , Device manufacturers and DTH- segments.
Saregama has released 300 tracks digitally this year so far and is supporting artists under its roster by exploiting the rapidly growing digital medium.
As case in point, the label has undertaken a 360 degree promotional blitz to promote singer-actor Sophie Choudry’s new digital single ‘Hungama Ho Gaya’ produced by the label. The club single is available across multiple digital platforms like mobile, internet and the social media.
The video of the cover song, directed by Shiraz Bhattacharya, has been shot in 16 days.
“Our label has multiple categories of songs and artists- from Bollywood to Classical. The pop music category accounts for only one per cent of our pie but we are constantly producing and putting out singles. We are happy to release the single and it is a guaranteed hit, but there wont be a follow up album, ” Gupta said.
Saregama has one of the largest music libraries in the country with over 3,00,000 songs across more than 24 genres.
