MUMBAI: Amid the copyright furore between the film producers and music directors over the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act, music composer Pritam is entering into a co-ownership deal for his music compositions in 2010.
Pritam confirms, I am composing for Yashraj Films’ Badmash Company, Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, Rohan Sippy’s Dam Maro Dam, Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3, Thank You and a few more. I would be signing deals to co-own my compositions with producers for some of the movies. I cannot mention the names at the moment as the deal is still in process….
Pritam mentions about a partnership deal with Eros Entertainment for his release last year. I had entered into an agreement of co-ownership with Eros for Aa Dekhen Zara but haven’t received any returns from them. The system needs to be more transparent and composers must get their dues in co-ownerships….
Apart from Pritam, Rahman co-owns his music with the music labels and gets royalty share for Jaane tu ya jaane na, Slumdog Millionaire, Ada, Ghajini to name a few. Shankar Ehsaan Loy were co-producers for Big Music’s Johnny Gaddar.
Pritam signs off adding, It is a positive trend where producers are entering in a sharing agreement with composers which ensures their rightful dues…
Pritam delivered hit numbers in 2009 with films like Billu Barber, New York, Tum Mile, Love Aaj Kal, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, De Dana Dan, Dil Bole Hadipaa, All the Best and few others.
