MUMBAI: With tracks like ‘Bang Bang’ from the film ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Tune Mari Entriyaan’ from ‘Gunday’, Neeti Mohan has had a great 2014. Despite the song ‘Tune Mari Entriyaan’ topping various charts, the song did not bag many nominations. However, that does not really bother the singer.
“I never expected a nomination for ‘Jiya Re’ (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and when the song ‘Tune Mari Entriyaan’ did not make it to the nominations, it did not bother me. My award is when a listener calls me up and reminds me about the song which I have sung a couple of years back. I get happy when people during live gigs sing a song with me,” said Mohan. According to her, a singer, at times, needs to look beyond nominations and needs to be happy when a song receives positive responses from the people. Few of her songs like ‘Darbadaar’ from ‘CityLights’ and ‘Tu Hi Tu’ were not promoted well. “We are vocalists and we just try and do complete justice to the songs we sing. We actually do not have control over the promotions and marketing,” she commented.
For Mohan, music leads her to divine intervention, which is why she feels that it is essential for a singer to do his or her riyaaz daily. “For me, music is a form of prayer so the more I practice, the more spiritual I become and there is urge to work harder. Also this makes me better as a singer,” she further added.

Recently she crooned the track ‘Maazaa My Lord’ for the film ‘Hawaizaada’. The film features Ayushmann Khurana, who plays a scientist in the lead role. The music of the track is composed by Mangesh Dhakde. “Since it is a period film, I was showed a few scenes of the song just to help me understand the situation. The song has an essence of yesteryear and required that kind of a retro voice. The best part is that it is completely different from all the other songs I have sung,” she said.
The year 2014 gave her an opportunity to sing in various languages, including Tamil and Telugu for the films like ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Linga’ and ‘I’, and is now looking forward to singing in more languages. “I do not plan anything, so I do not know about the expectations; but all I can say is that I am enjoying my journey as a singer,” she said, signing off.
