MUMBAI: He has carved a niche for himself in the Assamese music scenario and he is now entering into the Hindi film space. Hailing from Assam, Dony Hazarika has more than 158 audio albums to his credit and has composed music for more than 14 Assamese films.
He is currently working with music director Kamlesh Shaamaniya on an Hindi Album â€?Humm, Towards Nirvana’ as a programmer which will see singers like Javed Ali, Roop Kumar Rathod, Suresh Wadkar, Jagjit Singh, Rekha Bharadwaj, Mahalakshmi,Krishna and Zubeen Garg crooning for it. The lyrics of the album is penned by Alimchand Prakash. “It is a Sufi spiritual album,” says Hazarika. The album will be released under the music label Worldwide Records on 26th October.
The other album for which he is arranging music is â€?Baahon mein’ to be released by Universal Music in November’09. The singers who will croon are Zubeen Garg, Dikshu, Arnab Chakraborty, Akriti Kakkar, Ujjaini and Sanjeevani.The lyricist for the album is Amit Singh. “I have earlier released three albums with Times music,” says the musician. â€?Naam’, â€?The K-Factor’ and â€?India’s Best’ by Times Music are the earlier released albums. Hazarika has also worked as an assistant music director for several jingles, the latest being for Reliance, Samsung Guru, Complan and several other advertisements. “Composing for a jingle is much difficult than composing for an album. One has to express the whole concept in few seconds in a jingle where as there is liberty of time and length when composing for an album,” he explains.
He has also arranged and programmed music for the recently released Hindi film â€?Aagey se right’ and another soon to be released film â€?Ruslaan’. Apart from films, he has also arranged music for television shows â€?Agle janam mohe betiyan hi kijo’ for Zee TV and â€?Hindi Hai Hum’ for Real
Talking about the local Assamese music he says, “I want to globalise Assamese folk music just like Bhangra or Garba. I want to provide a platform for folk music of the North-East so that the masses know about the rich musical culture of the region.”
His future project includes composing for a Konkani album, the singer of which is Dr. Varun Carvalho a Goan localite. “The album has ten songs which are composed by me. It will be released soon though things have not materialised yet.”
