NEW DELHI: LG Electronics, which had recently announced a new series in Smart Phones, Optimus, launched LG Optimus One, the first of 11 smart phone devices to follow in the next six months, and iterated its strong intent in the Smart Phone category in India.
Moon B Shin, MD, LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd told RadioAndMusic.com that his company has identified Mobile Phones as a strategic growth engine category, and will increase production capacity from 8 million to 15 million by 2011 at its Pune plant. It will target 12-15% of the Smartphone segment in India in 2011, to which end it will invest Rs 350 crore on marketing. We have an ambitious target of 80% revenue growth in mobile business by 2011,… he said.
Vishal Chopra, Business Group Head, Mobile Communications, LGEIL, said his company will concentrate upon simplifying Smart phones for consumers and give them experience on how applications can improve life. He said LGEIL will expand the retail presence by 25,000 outlets and 500 exclusive LG mobile galleries…. The company plans to launch 55 new models next year, of which 40% will be Smartphones.
