MUMBAI: Android operating system is ruling the smartphone market with a share of 55 per cent worldwide. Capitalizing on the consumer demand, the Indian handset brands are steadily increasing in demand with affordable Android phones as per Handset Hotlist survey June 2012 of The Mobile Indian.
According to the report, three of the 15 android handsets that made it to the list are from Indian players Karbonn and Micromax. Though the numbers are still small, it signals a change towards Indian brands. Nokia C5-03 maintained its number one position for a record ninth consecutive month while Karbonn A9 attained the spot of being the second most searched phone from a list of around 2,000 handsets listed on the site.
Garnering popularity for latest handset Galaxy S III, Samsung has maintained its brand reputation with 12 out of the top 25 handsets belonging to the company.
Losing steam in the handset market, Nokia continued to slump as only four of its handsets made it to the popular chart as against six handsets in the previous survey. Sony featured three models on the list while Micromax enlisted two handsets. Spice Mobiles, BlackBerry and HTC showcased one device each.
Commenting on the survey, The Mobile Indian spokesperson said, “Of late, Indian players are launching smartphones, especially on the android platform and that too at an affordable price. This is generating a lot of excitement among the price conscious consumers. Samsung’s strategy of launching phones at regular intervals in India is also getting results as all the latest handsets of the company, including the Galaxy S III, are featured in the list.”
The Handset Hotlist survey is based on a study of online preferences of around one million people who visited the website in May 2012. The survey takes into consideration the most searched for and viewed information about mobiles on the site’s handset section, which lists more than 2,000 models.
