MUMBAI: Shimmy, in synchronisation, and make way for Govinda, the Hero No.1 who is now foraying into the music Industry. With the holier-than-thou Puja Banerjee a.k.a. Parvati in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, the industry veteran has launched his debut album, Gori Tere Naina.
Having dabbled with politics to regain his ebbing fame and presence, the versatile actor now promises entertaining music videos, complete with his signature Govinda ‘jhatkas’ and killer expressions. His performance as a guest on Nach Baliye 5 in March should remind you of his charm, in case you had forgotten. He said, “In an artiste’s life, it happens sometimes that he has to reinvent himself, learn something new and start from scratch. I haven’t had films for years. Even though this has happened with me several times (laughs), I think this endeavor is my way of maintaining my relations with my fans.”
The Album Launch kicked off with the actors getting jiggy and dancing to their tracks. His speech was interspersed with the religious words ‘Mai ki kripa’ and he signed off by saying he hopes that this song will be a success this Navratri. After some struggling to open the Album, it was finally launched to the public.
Following this, we got a preview of the two songs in his album that has videos, Gori Tere Naina and Party Da Mood. Gori Tere Naina comes as a surprise, with Govinda singing astonishingly well. Apart from the occasional (disturbing) heavy exhalations by a female, the traditional Garba beats and a melodious Govinda make the song a perfect Garbe Geet for this Navratri. The video features Govinda expressing his feelings for Puja in a garden setting wearing clothes often seen in mythology based television shows. “When I met Puja on the beach, she looked like a Goddess. She is current Parvati in Mahadev. As I got to know her better, I felt she was the one for the Video. She would be the Radha to this Govinda.” added Govinda.
Party Da Mood sees Govinda dressed as a Mika Singh lookalike, surrounded by scantily clad women who, instead of the usual grind, are imitating the actor’s typical Govinda moves. The high point of the video is when he turns into a Saadhu and dances wearing red underwear, his justification for it being, “I have lost 33 kilos and have been doing a lot of yoga. I had to pay my respects to Baba Ramdev! (laughs)”
When asked by a cheeky reporter to sing a few lines, he dismissed all doubts about his talent by singing Gori Tere Naina, following which the crowd broke into applause. Our ‘Raja Babu’ has written and sung 4 tracks to Shamir Tandon’s tunes, a man best recognized by the music he produced for Page 3, Traffic Signal and Corporate.
