NEW DELHI: The Film and Television Producers Guild of India lauded personalities from the Indian entertainment industry who have been conferred the Padma awards on the occasion of Republic Day this year, on Thursday.
In a message addressed to the award winners, the Guild has said: The colossal contribution that you have made in your chosen field has received just recognition and you have also made your peers proud. May you continue to shine brighter and may the future hold further laurels for you. Our best wishes and prayers are always with you….
The Guild congratulated all the awardees for deserving recognition in their respective fields and wished them the very best for their future endeavors.
Veteran broadcaster Ameen Sayani whose voice is synonymous with All India Radio’s Vividh Bharati has been given the Padma Shri. Sayani gave popularity to radio from the days of Radio Ceylon.
While the Padma awards are conferred by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, they are recommended by a core group in the Home Ministry after they are received from different Ministries.
Other Padma Bhushan awardees include veteran Telugu actor Krishna (G Sivarama Krishna Murthy) and senior singer Shamshad Begum.
Senior filmmaker Dr S Krishnaswamy of Krishnaswamy Associates, known for â€?From Indus Valley to Indira Gandhi’ and â€?Indian Imprints’ among other films and television programmes for Indian and foreign television, has been given the Padma Shri. â€?Indian Imprints’ is a unique serial which details the spread of Hinduism in South East Asia and was extensively shot in several countries. It has been aired on Doordarshan.
Other recipients of the Padma Shri include veteran actress Helen, actor Akshay Kumar, Pandit Hridyanath Mangeshkar who is the brother of the singing queen Lata Mangeshkar, ghazal singer Penaz Masani, and Bollywood playback singers Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan.
