MUMBAI: After assisting Pritam for a couple of years, composer duo Imraan and Vikram are ready to spread their wings. The two have got their first big break with Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming horror flick Aagyat’.
We met each other during the recording of â€?Goal’ for which Pritam was the music director. We hit off instantly and decided to work together in future. We couldn’t believe our luck when we were approached for Ram Gopal Varma’s film. We made him listen to a couple of a songs and he liked the track â€?Kiss You Night And Day’. That’s how we came on board,… says Imraan.
When quizzed about the plagiarism issue hovering around their mentor Pritam, the duo in a well rehearsed tone echoed, There are only seven notes in the world on which the music is composed. So somewhere the song can sound similar….
It’s not always deliberately that the tune is lifted. Sometimes it just matches unintentionally,… explains Vikram. I don’t mind getting inspired but there should be some addition to the original work. Your work should go beyond the inspiration,… says Imraan.
Working with Pritam was an amazing experience. It gave us the practice ground and helped us to make contacts in the industry. Working with him was a big learning experience,… says Imraan. Working with him helped us kickstart our career.”
Talking about the difficulties that newcomers face while entering the industry, Imraan says, Getting a break in the industry is anyway difficult and with the slowdown, it has become even worse. The big producers are not ready to risk the bucks on unknown names. They think only the established names can deliver a hit. Even the actors suggest the names of the big composers…. It is extremely difficult to find a break and once you find it, maintaining a different identity from the clutter becomes quintessential to bag more work,… says Vikram.
The composers have scored music for several jingles as well as background scores for a few television shows. We have been approached for a couple of films but things are under wraps as of now. It is too early to disclose,… says Imraan.
