MUMBAI: Veteran rocker Bruce Springsteen has beaten Michael Jackson and David Bowie to claim his tenth number one UK album with his latest release ‘High Hopes’. His latest accomplishment puts Springsteen with English rock band Rolling Stones and Irish rockers U2, who also have ten UK number one albums.
According to figures from the Official Charts Company, the Boss’ latest album has helped him surpass some other great musical acts including Jackson, Bowie, Abba and Queen, all of whom have claimed nine number one albums.
The Beatles are the chart’s current record holders with 15 number one albums. They are followed by ‘material girl’ Madonna who has 12 number ones to her name, while U.K pop singer Robbie Williams and the ‘king of rock and roll’ Elvis Presley have scored 11 number one albums; one more than Springsteen.
With the American rocker’s latest release, singer/ songwriter Ellie Goulding’s ‘Halcyon’ dropped to number two from being in the top position for two weeks. While Beyonce’s latest self titled album dropped to the third place, Bastille’s ‘Bad Blood’ moved up to four from its previous position in five, and in fifth place is Gary Barlow’s ‘Since I Saw You Last’.
After an accidental release on 28 December 2013 through Amazon, Springsteen officially released ‘High Hopes’ on 14 January 2014 on the ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ show, which was entirely dedicated to the ‘Born in the USA singer.
