BANGALORE: The Alliance Fran?§aise in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, the Goethe-Institutes in Bangalore and Chennai and the Goethe Centres in Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the Bangalore School of Music, will bring to Indian audiences an exceptional musical encounter between three talented jazz musicians from Bangalore, Berlin, and Paris for a series of workshops and concerts in South India during the concert tour titled JazzConnect 2010.
The pianist Uli Lenz and the saxophonist Fran?§ois Jeanneau have been working together for many years and are acknowledged as top-notch musicians in the contemporary European jazz scenario. They will play their latest compositions, combining the purity of traditional jazz with the boldest of improvisations. Visiting India for the first time, their artistry will discover the young and the already promising tabla player, Muthu Kumar Varadarajan from Bangalore.
The tour has its origins in the ?‰lys?©e Treaty – a historical agreement between France and Germany. The ?‰lys?©e Treaty was signed on 22 January 1963 by Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and General Charles de Gaulle. It pursues three aims, which are specified in the Treaty’s brief joint declaration: to symbolically set the seal on German-French reconciliation, to forge a genuine friendship between the two nations people and in particular among their young people, and to promote the development of a “united Europe, which is the aim of the two peoples”.

In keeping with the underlying objectives of the Treaty, the resources of the ?‰lys?©e Fund have been used mainly for projects in the cultural sphere, emphasizing the fact that the reconciliation between nations is not merely a political gesture, but a very real and tangible movement to bring together the citizens of the world.
