MUMBAI: Carnatic rock guitarist and musician Baiju Dharmajan is ready with another single ‘Kaithola’, whose music video is in the making right now. The editing and post production of the video has been put on hold for a while due to insufficient funds. Dharmajan’s team requires funds to complete the video and screen it on platforms, which is why it is up for crowdfunding on Wishberry.in.

The song ‘Kaithola’ speaks about the love of a mother for her little daughter through an elaborate and emotional story. Inspired by a Malayali classic, this song focuses on a direction that he wants to take his music in. The traditional folk song is about the plight of a woman and the love for her child. Dharmajan says, “It is very important to share the message of love. We need to love, respect and care for the girl child. Men in conventional settings neglect their girl child while the mother does everything that she can, to make her child feel loved.”

Although, the song was composed last year, Dharmajan did not have a vocalist who fit the bill. He says, “I needed a strong vocalist who could sing brilliantly. Finally, I found Sibi Mukandan (vocalist of Syndicate, Dharmajan’s band) who will be featuring in the video. He is a dynamic singer and he is what I was looking for.”

The three-time winner for Best Guitarist Award by Rolling Stone India, Dharmajan is credited with popularising Carnatic rock music. This is his first ever crowdfunding project, which has been entirely conceptualised by his manager Rahul Gandhi. He stated, “Rahul, who is like my brother, suggested that we raise funds for the video since we could not come up with the entire amount needed. I was a little skeptical about it in the beginning not knowing how people would react to it. He convinced me that we would be giving away rewards to everyone who contributes and it would be a great idea.”

The target amount of the campaign is 3.5 lakh, which will be open till 15 October this year, since they plan to release the video by the last week of December. There are thirteen different amounts that contributors can choose from according to which they will be rewarded. To accommodate economic constraints, the minimum amount is Rs 200, with the maximum amount going up to 2 lakh, which will result in the funder receiving all twelve rewards and Dharmajan’s guitar, the thirteenth reward. If the target amount is not reached, the video might not be released and the entire amount will be refunded whereas, if the campaign is completed, every contributor will be a partner in the video. The campaign has already received Rs 62,200 from ardent fans all over the country but, is still far from its target.

Fans can pledge their support to take the video to its final stage through Wishberry.in.

The guitarist explains, “It will be a project that my fans will help me achieve. That is why this project is extremely special to me.”

Currently on tour, Dharmajan will soon be performing in Pune. He adds, “I hope we can make something happen in Mumbai too.”
