World Sufi Spirit Festivalis back with an eclectic mix of artists!

MUMBAI: The World Sufi Spirit Festival (WSSF) is back in its 6th year with a host of talent from across the world to enthrallmusic aficionados. This edition promises to be a memorable journey; a magnificent evocation of the sacred through the ancient traditions that will enchant one and all. Hosted by the Royal family of Jodhpur, WSSF will kick start on 22nd February at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur and will culminate on 27th February at Ahichhatragarh Fort, Nagaur.

With the serene Mehrangarh and Ahichhatragarh Forts as the backdrop, these leading exponents of Sufi will showcase an enriching amalgamation of musical traditions that descend from across varied geographical boundaries. This year WSSF will bring forth traditions of the East, Asia and Africa to the rich heritage of India.

Patron of the festival, International singer Sting added, “Music is a language that transcends all barriers across the globe. After the successful renditions last year, the exponents of Sufi will reunite and combine their spiritual heritage with the beauty of sacred music and dance.Don’t miss this exquisite occasion and experience the magic!”

The mystical state of Rajasthan will witness performances by talented artists from Egypt, Turkey, France, Pakistan, Paris, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Cochin and Lucknow along with the traditional Rajasthani folk musicians, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state.

His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh II said, “Sufi Music brings a feeling of universality in the true spiritual sense; it is divine blend of power and tenderness. Having said that, WSSF will give both the National as well as the International artists a common ground to learn and discover rich Sufi traditions prevalent worldwide.It further gives them an opportunity to establish a connect between different cultures.”

Said Alain Weber, Artistic Director,“Post a successful event last year, I am thrilled to direct the upcoming edition of the WSSF. We have experimented a lot this year amalgamating different kind of Sufi rituals and channelized talent to create something beautiful. I would like to congratulate the Mehrangarh Museum Trust for setting up a global platform to promote a traditional music artform.”
