MUMBAI: Barbra Streisand’s album Love Is the Answer – is No.1 today on both sides of the Atlantic- a first in her career This is Streisand’s first studio album in four years – a collection of intimate jazz standards produced by Diana Krall.
The album currently stands at No. 1 on the UK charts and US charts. The last No.1 Streisand had in the UK was in 2002 with her album ‘Essential’- and the US in 1997, with â€?Higher Ground’. Streisand has become the first female act with the most No. 1 releases on the Billboard 200. She has also become the first artist to top the chart in five consecutive decades.
Streisand says: I was just told that Love Is The Answer is at Number One in the UK and US – and I want to share that honour with all of you.. my fans, my friends.. who have made that possible. I want to share it as well with Diana Krall and Tommy LiPuma and everyone who worked on the album… with Jay Landers and especially my manager Marty Erlichman and my team at Columbia Records. You’d think that getting the news that you’ve been Number One in five consecutive decades would make you feel old, but this makes me feel young. Thank you all….
Setting numerous records that may never be exceeded, the recording field’s all-time top album-selling female artist Barbra Streisand exceeded a powerful field of debut albums to win #1 on the latest Billboard charts with her Love Is The Answer released by Columbia Records Although no other artist has matched her prior record of four straight decades at #1, the new achievement may be a bar that can ever be equaled.
Streisand was in the UK last month to record a TV Special ‘Friday Night With Streisand and Ross’ – where she was interviewed and performed two live numbers – the first time ever in her career that Barbra has sung live on British television In the US last week, Streisand performed a free concert at the Village Vanguard, the tiny New York jazz club (where she auditioned 48 years ago) – and performed songs from Love is the Answer for an intimate crowd of friends and lucky fans. The audience included former U.S. President Bill Clinton and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
An artist of unparalleled accomplishments in multiple entertainment fields- Streisand has made her mark as an award winning actress of stage and screen, recording artist, concert performer, movie producer, film director, screenwriter and songwriter. Having earned two Oscars (Best Actress and Best Song), five Emmys, ten Golden Globes, eight Grammys, a special Tony Award (in 1970 as “Star of the Decade”), and two Cable Ace awards, she is the only performer to hold honors from all of those institutions Her most recent motion picture, “Meet The Fockers,” became and remains the only live-action comedy to exceed the half billion dollar box office mark In addition, Streisand is a recipient of the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award, the National Endowment for the Arts National Medal of Arts, the prestigious Peabody Award, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In the past year, Barbra Streisand was awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor for Exemplary Lifetime Achievement in The Performing Arts.
