In autumn 1976, drummer Larry Mullen put a note on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, looking for people to join a band. Paul Hewson , Dave Evans , Dik Evans, and Adam Clayton joined up. Dik soon left to join the Virgin Prunes, while the remaining four formed ‘Feedback’ before changing to ‘The Hype’ and then U2.
In the decades that have followed, U2 have come to be, quite simply, the greatest rock band of all time. With all their contemporaries now in the â€?Retro’ playlist, U2 continues to be a tour de force, and inspiration for millions. There is much that has been written about U2’s activism and charity but in the end it is all about the music.
