Three connoisseurs of music on a single platform in an Event “Spandanam”. This musical event features the renowned Percussionist Taufiq Qureshi, Legendry Guruji. Dr. T V Gopalakrishnan and accompanying him is Carola Grey, a renowned drummer from Germany.
Taufiq Qureshi, an ace percussionist of India, is also an acclaimed composer. Being the son and disciple of the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha; Taufiq’s performances showcase the traditional flavour and intricacies of Indian rhythm, interwoven with his phenomenal command and sparkle of contemporary world percussions. Taufiq’s trademark style incorporates body and vocal percussions to create unique rhythmic motifs spanning across cultures. His sense of tone and his command over a wide variety of percussion instruments and styles is commendable. His albums have been released world over and he has performed at prestigious music festivals all over the globe. He has been featured as a performing artiste on the 2009- Grammy award winning album ‘Global Drum Project’. Taufiq’s album ‘Rhydhun’ amongst others is said to have set new standards for world music in India.
Dr. T.V.Gopalakrishnan, A Musician who has a unique distinction of being the first to perform Carnatic and Hindustani Classical Vocal Music with India’s top accompanists for over 3 decades. Also known as Versatile Genius who was born at Trippunithura (Kerala, India), in a family of more than 200 years of musical heritage who adorned the courts of Royalties, Trippunithura Viswanathan Gopalkrishnan (TVG) learnt the complexities of this inimitable music from his father, Sri.Viswanatha Bhagavathar, a great exponent of Carnatic music who was a direct disciple of Palghat Sri.Anantharama Bhagavathar. Even before the age of five, TVG was initiated to the great tradition and heritage handed down by Coimbatore Raghava Iyer, Mahavaidyanatha Iyer, Chakrathanam Subba Iyer (great grandfather of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar) and Palghat Anantharama Bhagavathar.

Carola Grey, born in Munich, German, started out as a very motivated classical pianist at the age of 6. When she discovered the drums at 14 it put an abrupt end to those carrier plans and she decided to study Jazz at the famous college for music” in Cologne where she received her masters degree in music and music education. The next 6 years she spent in New York, where, besides working with numerous artists from all kind of musical directions, she also right away started her own band and began touring. In the next couple of years concerts and drum clinics should lead her all over the globe. Her CDs made it into the Top Ten of the U.S. Gavin Jazz charts and she received several awards as a drummer and composer. Recently most of her energy goes into her reactivated group ‘noisy mama’ (“desperately awaited by her many fans”, JAZZZEITUNG). To have total creative control over her art she has founded her own record label : ‘noisy mama productions’ She has released her CD ‘Drum Attack!’ in march 2007.
