Think western rhythms with overtones of jazz and blues uniting with Indian classical music. Think five musicians as diverse and elemental as earth, wind, water, fire and soul.
Think contemporary world fusion with power and spirit.
Think SOUL YATRA
Combining some of India’s finest musical talent, Soul Yatra emerges as a cross blend of Indian traditional styles and western music.
The lineup:
Merlin DeSouza, a pianist, with her western classical training and jazzy ??©lan is already an established name as a composer and musician, and has scores of film, TV-commercial and theatre projects to her credit.
From diametrically opposite cultures Pandit Ravi Chary ‘s sitar keeps alive the mysterious and exotic India. Having performed with great Indian music exponents both at home and abroad this acclaimed sitar player lends his unique and eclectic sound to the band.
Mukul Dongrey, a well oiled percussion machine, is equally startling on the tabla as on drums..encompassing fusion, Hindustani and Carnatic classical.
Rhys-Sebastian on saxaphone…. the youngest exciting member fuses into the band soul, style and a fresh new sound. This whizkid has already played the circuit in studios, theatre and on stage in the country and abroad.
Vivienne Pocha: An incendiary performer, whose voice scales jazz, blues, rock and just about everything, hails from musical theatre. Having toured the country with rock bands, wafted into blues and jazz, she now has her soul set on world fusion.
Ashley Q – the lead guitarist is a veteran and consumate musician adds a classical and jazz touch to the sound of Soul Yatra.
Bertie D’silva lends the right support …groove… and swing with his bass guitar.
The new lineup is a result of years of collaboration and distils into sublime musical alchemy. Their yatra, sheer drive and energy level of performance is indelible in its impact; it is, in a phrase, SOUL YATRA
