Sitar recital by Zunain Khan

Sitar recital by Zunain Khan. In collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations

Zunain Khan has emerged as one of the foremost sitarists of his generation and is the principal exponent of the Jafferkhani Baaj, an innovation of his eminent father and guru, Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan.

Zunain represents the fifth generation of the Indore Beenkar gharana in the lineage of Ghairat Khan, Murawat Khan and Jaffer Khan. Known for a unique subtlety in his approach and rendition of ragas, Zunain has developed national and international recognition, leaving his audiences enthralled by showcasing the legacy of the Jafferkhani Baaj. Under the ICCR, Zunain was the official cultural delegate at the Indian Republic Day Celebration in Beijing, and at the 3rd International Rondalla Plucked String Festival at Phillipines. Other national and international performances include those at Joenju Sori Festival (Korea), Festival D’ETE Nantes (France), Cal Arts (USA), and Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior). He has collaborated with Abhay Rustom Sopori, Guggenheim fellows, Flamenco artistes Pedro Cortes and La Conja, and dancer Rajika Puri on a unique Flamenco-Bharatanatyam project entitled Paani.
