Native Tongue

You may think that here is a band that is an irony in itself – while they are called Native Tongue, as many Indian bands are wont to do, they look at foreign lands for musical inspiration and find it in the forms of U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police, Foo Fighters, Van Halen and Dave Matthews Band. But then you realize that they also cite Bangalore’s own Thermal and a Quarter and Bruce Lee Mani as their driving influence. That’s heartening for the independent Indian music movement to realize that there are Indian bands inspiring other Indian bands!

The trio with the unlikely names of Benhur, Joel and Baba have been through revolving door syndrome with band members coming and going but now represent a line up that plays stage-wrecking post punk and alternative grunge. Catch these Hyderabadi heroes in action at Kyra.
