Bombay Elektrik Projekt in association with UTV World Movies presents a unique marriage of movies (Reinas) and music (Parachute XVI, one of Bangalore’s finest bands) at the kick-ass live venue that is Kyra, on Monday 31st August. The evening kick starts with Manuel Gomez Pereira’s delightful Spanish farce, Reinas (Queens). There are a lot of “Queens” in Pereira’s film, starting with the five pairs of young, good-looking men who aim to be wed in a mass-marriage.
But most memorable of all are five of their mothers, played by grande dames of 1980s Spanish cinema, still sexy, aging gracefully and proudly displaying cleavage.
The story of five mothers coping with the drama that surrounds their gay sons at a mass wedding will have some resonance in these times of the ban on Article 377.
Following the film, catch Parachute XVI, one of Bangalore’s finest live acts. The band is a storehouse of psychedelic blues and a beautiful confluence of seasoned musicianship.
