MUMBAI: An expert committee formed with the approval of Information and Broadcasting ministry (I&B), will meet for the protection of broadcasting organisations at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The committee comprises representatives from various ministries and broadcasters association representing radio, film, and advertising amongst many others.
The committee will examine, discuss and articulate the stand being taken by India on the protection of broadcasting organisation at WlPO. It will be held under the chairmanship of Secretary of I&B.
The agenda of the meet is to discuss on the text of the broadcasting treaty and proposals submitted by India during 26th Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) informal proposal submitted by Japan; proposal submitted by the European Union; formats circulated by WlPO secretariat for informal discussion paper during 28th SCCR; and delimitations matrix circulated by WlPO Secretariat for definitions of various technical issues of Broadcasting Treaty to be discussed in the next SCCR. The 26th session of SCCR was held in Geneva last year in December where India presented its point of view.

The 27th session of SCCR held from April to May 2014, was not attended by the ministry, however, 28th session was attended by them. The 29th session is scheduled to be held in December 2014.
