Finalists announced for BBC Songs Of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year 2014

MUMBAI: After the fabulous success of last year’s competition, this year’s event is bigger and better than ever.

David Grant and Josie d’Arby will host two special programmes from the historic Hackney Empire in London. The six choirs, who’ve made it through to the finals, will compete in front of an enthusiastic audience in an attempt to impress our three judges; soul singer Mica Paris, vocal coach and MOBI award winner Carrie Grant, and UK Gospel artist Muyiwa Olarewaju.

The choirs will each perform twice before the judges decide which choir will lift the coveted trophy and become the Songs Of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year 2014.

Bringing the glorious sound of Gospel music to our screens the six finalists from around the country are:

-B.I.G Choir from London, led by Choir Director Andrea Encinas

-Living Faith Connections, a church choir from Barking led by choir director Evans Ogboi

-Aine, the smallest choir in the competition with just eight singers from across the North of England lead by Choir Director, Alex Douglas

-Reapers Choir from Hackney, led by Choir Director Anu Omideyi

-Gospel Rhythms from Coventry University, led by fellow students Rebecca Olaofe and David Amoah

-Lewes Sings Gospel from Lewes in East Sussex, led by Choir Director Karen Gibson

Songs Of Praise series producer Matthew Napier said, “What an experience for the choirs, the judges and the audience! So much passion, so much faith and so much joy pouring out of these six amateur gospel choirs. I’m sure the viewers will be wowed by the electric atmosphere and the celebration of the glorious sound of gospel.”
