It’s common knowledge that the party never stops at the Breezer Dub Station, and on Day One of the festival, it became apparent that even rain can’t change that. Beginning with Dakta Dub’s set, right to the end with Spoonbill, there was hardly a moment when the Breezer Dub Station wasn’t graced by scores of dancing, happy festival goers. Dualist Inquiry’s first ever DJ set deserves a special mention, with a set list that included everything from crowd favourites Qualia and Orbital, to Parov Stelar.
The Dewarists stage wasn’t far behind, though, as every set at the stage drew some of the largest crowds for the day. Lucky Ali and Kailasa thrilled every one of their thousands of fans, with some of their finest sets yet, while The Manganiyar Seduction by Roysten Abel was easily one of the most spectacular shows the festival has seen – much like their debut at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune last year.
A special mention must be made for all the musicians who performed through rainy Day One, and kept spirits up with their incredibly positivity. Everyone from Shaa’ir + Func to Kailash Kher drew in hundreds upon thousands of festival goers for their sets, all of whom were more than happy to turn their sets into spectacular rain dances.
Rob Garza’s solo DJ set was one of the most highly anticipated sets for the Bangalore leg of the festival, and it was near impeccable. He read the crowd to perfection, and a slight drizzle made the green laser lights ever so enchanting. Magical, would be the word you’re looking for.
Australian singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke played at the MTS Other Stage on Day One, and her near-operatic vocals saw the crowds thickening with each song. Men swooned.
Sam Poggioli, otherwise known as Sampology, released a rather intriguing teaser some days ago. It managed to catch the attention of many festival goers, and those who braved a particularly heavy spell of rain to stick around through his set will tell you it was well worth it. The young producer is most popular for his stunning audio-visual sets, and his first at Bacardi NH7 Weekender was a perfect example of why.
What to look out for on Day Two:
Having played the set of the festival at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune last month, Nucleya will return to Bacardi NH7 Weekender on Day Two of the Bangalore leg. We promise you, if you miss it, you’ll regret it.
Bangalore boy Raghu Dixit will launch his band, The Raghu Dixit Project’s long awaited sophomore album, Jag Changa on Day Two with a special set for the festival. There will be dancers, puppeteers, jugglers and, of course, Bangalore’s favourite lungi-clad men. You’re going to want to drop whatever it is you’re doing and run to The Dewarists stage for this.
There’s one more Bangalore special set lined up for Sunday evening, with Swarathma. The folk-rock band will play atop the Red Bull Tour Bus, with a special string section conducted by Manoj George. Special sounds about right.
One of the most impressive young musicians to have emerged from the country in recent times, Nischay Parekh will play a short – but it will be sweet, and that’s a guarantee – half hour set at the MTS Other Stage on Sunday evening.
See you soon!
