Anu Malek is finally back with something woth remembering. The songs for Ugly aur Pagli cannot be considered his career best, but some songs in the album are definitely worth appreciating.
The composer has reserved the best music for his daughter. And Anmol complies by generously showcasing her talent in the songs papa has composed for her. If not the radio stations, the songs are going to be a sure hit at the discs and pubs, it has the energy and pep to keep the album going.
Karle gunhan ankhiyan milake is the first song of the album. Sung by Anusha Manchanda and Ishq Bector, any one could mistake this track for Daddy Yankees Gassolina. Except for the tabla rendering at the start of the track, the beats and tunes are uncannily similar to the said music.
The same song is once again sung in a male voice by Ishq Bector and Krishana. The song is no doubt very peppy which makes it an ultimate dance number. The remix version with some more techno sounds adds to the energy of the number. Ishq Bector’s rap in the song is worth appreciating, his unique voice adding a very different flavour to the song. The not so original track sung by Anusha and Ishq Bector is better than the remix version though.
Shut up aa nachle is the next song, with vocals by Anu Malek, Dibyendu Mukherjee and Vasundhara Das. With a cocktail of Spanish, Punjabi and western beats, the song And the background hums with beats that remind one of the Prabhu Deva track ‘muqala muqabala’….remember?
Talli main talli ho gai marks the debut of Anmol Malek. The same song has a remix version and a second version sung by Hard Kaur and Anu Malek. The original song is sung by Anmol Malik, Mika and Hard Kaur. Anu has got the three ends together with a mix of western rap by Hard Kaur, Punjabi vocals with Mika and Anmol gave the song a very heavy Rajasthani accent.This is one of the foot tapping songs of the album. Anmol’s feel and accent will appeal to every listener. The remix version cannot be better than the original song. With some extra rapping and bangra, the song doesn’t appeal as much the original song. Anu Malek’s talli also doesn’t appeal as his daughter. Anmol definitely needs a round of applause for the delivery and feel of the song.
Mohit Chauhan strikes a chord with Anu Malek in Teri yaad aye jaye. The melody is kept soft with a base guitar in the background. The singer has once again proved its capability. This is the only song which is not a dance number unlike the other tracks in the album.
Ye nazar aur ye is the last number of the album. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan, the music gives a very retro feel to the listeners. Not a bad composition, but compared to the other songs in the album, this track does not have a mass appeal. The singers have not experimented with their voice which makes the vocals very monotonous.
Karle gunhan and Talli are definitely the best parts of the album. These songs are meant to get even the non dancers on the floor. If promoted well, the album could well top the charts. The album is definitely a go getter for Anmol Malik’s Talli.
