Back on the music front with its third installment of erotic horror series, Raaz 3, the soundtrack of Mahesh Bhatt’s directorial is already soaring high and certainly reaching the peak of expectation, with the hit alliance of Emraan Hashmi. But, with Raaz 3, the franchise which was known for varying music style has taken an unusual turn by spinning soft somber musical numbers instead of being innovative.

The album composed by Jeet Ganguly has failed to deliver the sinister feel of music, which was perfectly conveyed through its earlier counterparts Raaz and Raaz – The Mystery Continues. Enlisting six tracks, the album relies on the romantic odes rendered by renowned musicians like Javed Ali, Shafqat Ali, KK, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal.

Demonstrating the engaging and quiet intensity of music, the adoring track ‘Deewana Kar Raha Hai’ raises the curtain from the album. The music composed in collaboration with Rashid Khan depicts pleasant instrumental amalgamation with good command of mixing. The short and impressive track crooned by Javed Ali also features Rashid Khan in the role of lyricist who has succeeded in conveying the intensity of the track.

Taking forward the unruffled feel of the album, the second track ‘Zindagi Se’ follows the same slow pace of ‘Deewana Kar Raha’. Without much of variation, the number once again highlights musical blend of diverse instruments merged well with the refreshing vocals of Shafqat Ali. The hummable song which is well portrayed through Sanjay Masoomm’s lyrical representation lacks in the factor of innovation and becomes repetitive after a certain moment.

The requisite of sinister feel amplifies as the album proceeds to its third track ‘Rafta Rafta’, but falls short in bringing up the mood, as the song once again turns into a pleasant ditty. The track rendered by KK also lacks in terms of composition and singing when compared to his previous chartbuster. The song falls on lines of dud as it gets mediocre and repetitive with nothing new to share.

The album further takes a swan dive as the much promised Bollywood singing duo Sonu Nigam and Sherya Ghosal fail to spin their magic in the track ‘Oh My Love’. The track once again turns repetitive and boring with the same style of musical treatment.

Further, the next duet track ‘Kya Raaz Hai’ by Shreya Ghosal and Zubin also follows the road of mediocrity,  as the vocals of Ghosal fail to highlight the raw desire and power of the lyrics penned by Kumaar.  However, the voice of Zubin did perfect justice by bringing out the angst and desperation as required by the lyrics.

Ending on yet another romantic ode, the album offers its last track ‘Khayalon Mein’ elegantly voiced by Shreya Ghosal.  Noteable lyrics clubbed with a youthful bubble gum pop music put forth a well churned track but feels quiet out of place in the thriller album.

Summing up, no musical innovation and the middling tracks have squeezed the thrill out of the album making it one of the dud offerings from Mahesh Bhatt’s camp. The album lacks its main ingredient ie haunting vibe which is of prime importance in an erotic horror film.
