With Om Shanti Om, the expectations are obviously high as director Farah Khan teams up yet again with superstar SRK and duo Vishal Shekhar come together to create a magic from beats and music. The album has lived up to expectations of some, but has disappointed many as well.

Ajab Si is one of the best romantic tracks of 2007 because of its soulful tune. It is unconventional enough to break the norms of existing romantic numbers, and keeps from becoming monotonous. The lyrics by Vishal himself also come as a surprise. One of the most versatile singers of the industry, KK, has lent his voice to this song, taking it to an altogether different level.

Dard-e-Disco has been flaunted on air way too much for SRK’s perfect-six-abs than for its music. This one track has all the beats in sync with each other to create a very lively atmosphere. The Sufi and Arabic elements in the song are quite noticeable, thus making it contemporary in nature and assuring the song’s long shelf life. Marianne, Nisha and Caralisa come together for backup vocals, giving the song a perfect disco feel. The remixed of version of the same is a complete dance floor number all ready to rule the Saturday night slots on FM stations.

Dastaan E Om Shanti Om is a very clich?©d track and wouldn’t be liked by all for sure. It sounds like one of those tracks from the 1980s, but probably that’s the requirement of the movie. Dastaan (The Dark Side Mix) sung by Shaan is more or less similar to Dastaan E Om Shanti Om as far as the beats and tone of the song are concerned. Not much should be expected from these two tracks which remind of the song ‘ Yeh Shahhar hai aman ka’ from the film Raaz.

Deewangi Deewangi is one song that would hook you in the first go itself. With Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chouhan and Rahul Saxena (of Indian Idol fame), this is one rocker of a track. The chants of Om Shanti Om within the song give it a very celebratory feel. The Rainbow Mix of this song stands out brilliantly as compared to the original.

Dhoom Taana is quite a fluctuating track from the conventional to the rock-n-roll shift. Looks like a perfect song to get the veteran dancers from Bollywood to dance on. The end of the song is beautifully intense with the beats all composed very well. Kudos to Vishal Shekhar for this track!

Main Agar Kahoon by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam open with a tune that has a 1960s feel to it. Sonu Nigam’s voice in this track has a Mohamad Rafi appeal to it with Shreya rightly backing it up to make a complete love song. The rhythmic notes are rightly in sync with the lyrics of the song.

With Richa Sharma and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Jag Soona Soona Lage looks like the best of all the tracks. The pain of separation is so evident through the lyrics that the song can actually get a person to tears. The beginning of this track is the same as Main Agar Kahoon but nevertheless, beautiful! With a cent per cent Indian base, this is one passionately painful song not to be missed.

Om Shanti Om – Medley Mix comes towards the end of the album which is a mix and match of all the tracks from the film in a club-mix style. The theme of Om Shanti Om played on a piano leaves a final lasting impact.

With Om Shanti Om, Vishal Shekhar have delivered something that could be the next big musical blockbuster of the year.
