The album of Jab We Met is backed by a number of hardcore reasons to make it to the chartbusters.

One, the pairing of Shahid and Kareena on-screen after the rumours of their break-up. Second, Pritam with a chartbuster ‘Life in a Metro’ has composed the music for this album. Third, Imtiaz Ali, the man behind Socha Na Tha is the director of this film. And fourth, lyricist Irshad Kamil has penned the songs immediately after his latest film ‘Dhol.’

The album opens with the track ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’, and sets expectations high from the other tracks as well. The video of Shahid and Kareena jiving also makes this song a perfect recipe for a chartbuster. The remix version of the same comes at the very end of the album which keeps the mood of the album all alive! Mika has sung this song in a very ‘bindaas’ manner, making sure his nasal tone suits the beats without making it look like a replica of Himesh Reshammiya song.

The following track ‘Tum Se Hi’ is a very pleasant add-on where Irshad Kamil gets extremely poetic with the words. The composition of this track sounds curiously similar to that of Life in a Metro. Mohit Chauhan sounds all the more brilliant in this track due to the alluring background score. Although it doesn’t have that touch to become the crowd favourite in one go, it definitely will rule the hearts of the lovelorn. The remix of this song is a horrendous thought, but Pritam has experimented with that too. Fortunately, the original isn’t transformed to a very deadly track when remixed instead just a few rhythmic beats are added to increase the appeal and make it sound like a remixed version.

The next in the line-up is ‘Yeh Ishq’ which has a very Middle-
East feel to it, very similar to the song ‘Roop Suhana Lagta Hai’ from Gentleman. Shreya Ghoshal has lent her voice for this folksy song, sounds very different from what she usually does. This is one track which can look forward to trap the music lovers. The remixed version of the same is completely western in its feel, and does a good job nevertheless.

The next song is a kind of a breathless track titled ‘Nagada Nagada Nagada Baja’ sung by Sonu Nigam. This is one awesome track with the typical bhangra beats and very much in continuation with Mauja Hi Mauja. In the duration that it lasts for, there is just no space which has a beat missing. This full on party track can be expected to be the next big thing on the dance floors.

‘Aao Milo Chalo’ is a beautifully composed track, giving that complete touch to the album. Utsad Sultan Khan presents his brief alaap in this song adding to the feel that it’s a truly comprehensive track.

‘Aaoge Jab Tum’ by guest composer Sandesh Shandilya rightly complements the insightful lyrics by Irshad Kamil in this song. Lounge music with an Indian classical touch, which has become the trend in Bollywood lately, has been used here. Ustad Rashid Khan’s voice was the last element required to make this song complete with its old Hindi music sensations.

And if you thought this was all, then a surprise by Pritam comes across in the ‘Theme Music’ which goes on for over five minutes, and makes for a great background score.

A perfect mix and match of the expected tracks from any music is what Jab We Met is trying to achieve. But unfortunately, it doesn’t leave an lasting impact. It is a comparatively good work by Pritam but could have been better on some fronts. Don’t spend your hardearned bucks on this one!
