After courting controversial galore for almost two year since its inception, the most anticipated movie ‘Heroine’ is all set for its big bang release. Madhur Bhandarkar who always persuades audience with his real life behind the camera movies has already succeeded in arousing the spectator’s expectations with a high profiled jazzy trailer.
Seeming likely to be working on path of the movie ‘Fashion’, the music of Heroine is quite a surprise package. Composed by the hit duo Salim-Sulaiman, the soundtrack swiftly compiles current trending bollywood genres through the songs. The album features a blend of various styles like Sufi, romantic, bollywood and item number. The short album which enlists only five songs does feel like a letdown but do justice with the bold nature of the movie.
Salim-Sulaiman has taken a wise decision of opening an album with their signature style, musically infused track Halkat Jawani, which is already making waves on radio stations and television sets. Characterized with strong hooked up guitar riffs, the track features a good blend of harmonium melody and dhol beats. Crowned as queen of item song, Sunidhi Chauhan once again proves her mettle by escalating the song with her slinky and flawless rendition. Her slick summoning of the word “Aaja” and the latter chorus line resides as the highpoint of the track. Even though the song is a regular item number, it succeeds in providing the much necessary ‘oomph’ in the album through its crass lyrics and addictive music.
Banking on the calm and soothing vocals of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the album takes a romantic turn with the track ‘Saiyaan’. Like calm after storm, the melodious track comes as a soothing relief with the easy on ears musical tune of dholak and violin. The serene harmony of the track frequently tinges the similarity between the composers’ earlier track ‘Yeh Honsla’ from Dor, denoting the demure efforts of composers.
The third and presumed title track of the album ‘Main Heroine Hoon’ instantly reminisce its listeners about the poignant theme track of Don ‘Main Hoon Don’. A complete situational track is sung fabulously by Aditi Singh Sharma and hails the daunting mood of the track. The song highlights the diminutive strands of sitar which mingles well with the dubstep beats and electronic sounds.
Bringing forth yet another emotional number, ‘Khwahishein’ highlights the melancholic tone with the mélange of lilting piano and violin melody. Amalgamation of Shreya Ghosal vocals with the soft-rock tone punches the much needed emotional back-up and justifies the flavour of the track. The song signifies the prominence of Shreya’s versatility is an absolute go-getter and yet another winning track of the album.
Concluding the album on the fun-frolicking mode, the composers introduce the now in demand singer Benny Dayal for its peppy track ‘Tujhpe Fida’. After a series of romantic and serious numbers, the song ‘Tujhpe Fida’ comes as a breath of fresh air with its heavy dance – club beats and stunning guitar riffs. The club song infuses the much needed boost of energy and will definitely persuade its listeners to burn the dance floor. The strong and robust vocals of Dayal unify perfectly with the reliable energetic voice of Shraddha Pandit who also does justice to the slower bridge of the song.
In totality, Heroine is definitely not the best album from the composer’s kitty but Salim-Sulaiman has succeeded in delivering a subtle work. It seems like after the failure of Jodi Breakers, the composer have decided to take a safe turn and play around in their comfort zone. Even though it lacks in innovation, the album depicts a smart listing of tracks as each track brings forth the much needed flavour of the album. The mix bag of tracks surely delivers some hit numbers like Halkat Jawani, Tujhpe Fida and Khwahishein.
