MUMBAI: In association with Mixtape, antiSocial Khar, the city’s emerging music venue had a night that was full of beans on Friday, 5 August. Mixtape aims at showcasing front line live electronica artists and alternative DJs from India and across the globe. As a result, Radioandmusic.com got the chance to witness some eclectic and experimental sounds of Lifafa, _RHL and EchoFloat.
Suryakant Sawhney, recognised better by his stage name ‘Lifafa’ debuted in Mumbai at antiSOCIAL. Around ten pm, he took the stage, however, the opening act, ‘Lifafa’ ensured that the follow-on disappointment was momentary. There is no doubt that Suryakant’s voice blends effortlessly with music that has fantastic articulation, fabrications from Bollywood, and experimental fineness. Tracks from his latest EP ‘In Hi Ko’ and ‘Lifafa – Red Light Radio Session’ were really something stimulating. The ambient, dubstep tunes along with the deep house mood was definitely out of the box. However, we would like to mention that there were some issues with the sound setup, as we were unable to hear his voice in the latter part of the performance.
The highlight of the night arrived through Rahul Giri, better known as his stage name _RHL. He absolutely knows how to draw the attention with his thrilling music. _RHL is the solo project of Rahul, who is one-half of the downtempo/electronica act ‘Sulk Station.’ Spanning electronica, ambient, drum and bass, downtempo, house, techno, hip-hop, funk, trip-hop, and anything in between there’s no limit to what a _RHL live show can or cannot do. ‘Till then I (Sintotronics)’, ‘Jail Mein’, and ‘Machinedrum – Take Flight (_RHL Remix)’ and _RHL’s remixed version of ‘Zone’ from ‘Hashback Hashish’ were received with equal enthusiasm. Rahul did not miss a single opportunity to flaunt his very own musical expertise which we liked. We would like to say that it was a fun filled wicked set.

In addition to that, EchoFloat’s fractured beats were crazy enough and the add on was an electric visual set by Wolves Visuals. The ambience itself was kick enough. No complaints about the venue. Mumbai finally has a dedicated, versatile venue.
