A much hyped superhero flick, ‘Drona’ has its music done by Dhruv Ghanekar. With two versions of ‘Drona’, and three versions of ‘Op Cha’ there’s something for mellow easy listeners too – the semi classical ‘Bandagi’.
This followed by a jazzy track ‘Kushi’ and lullaby Nanhe Nanhe – Together, the album boasts of eight tracks.
Out of the eight, three tracks are worth a repeat, the title track ‘Drona‘, ‘Op Cha‘ and ‘Bandagi’. The music has probably been created keeping in mind the nature of the movie. After all, a super-hero multi-effects film demands a background score which can enhance the multi camera angle scenes. The music is not exceptionally good, but not bad either.
Creating music for a film like ‘Drona’ is always a challenge and Dhruv Ghanekar has done a remarkable job, especially with the title track ‘Drona’. As far as the sound goes – excellent mixing and moderate use of sound effects give the songs a better feel.
The title track ‘Drona’ which the music director has himself rendered, has a catchy tune and lyrics. Dhruv Ghanekar has a rounded polished feel to his voice, and one can detect similarities between his voice and that of Adnan Sami. Lyricist Vaibhav Modi has penned the lyrics for all the songs. Undoubtedtly, the man can do much better. In Drona, Vaibhav’s lyrics are simple and with no over the top Urdu (which at times tends to bounce off listeners). Lyrics are simple, but most importantly, have a steady flow.
Bandagi is a track which one can sit back and listen, for those who like ‘ghazals’ or soft music; ‘Bandagi’ is a decent offering. Dhruv Ghanekar has used a rather rare combination of voices -Sunidhi Chavan who is known to perfectly deliver those western styled songs.And, in complete contrast, there’s Roop Kumar Rathod who with his soft-velvety voice adds magic to the song’s classical improvisations. The song is well arranged – nevertheless, it’s challenging to create a song which has drums, tabla, flute, drone and bass guitar all in one.
‘Nanhe Nanhe’ is a lullaby that follows next. Sadhana Sargam sings this slow paced situational track – this is yet another number which derives its value from it’s placement in the film’s narrative. A jazz oriented track, ‘Khushi’ might remind you of the ‘Jaane tu..’ title track, it is supposedly a conversation song picturised on Abhishek Bachchan having fun with his friends, a lot depends how its picturized. ‘Op Cha‘ has motivational lyrics, perky arrangements and is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The song is also present in a fare – play remix version. The lyrics are ‘OK’.
‘Drona‘ sounds different from the usual Bollywood league. However, out of the eight tracks ‘Drona‘, ‘Op Cha’ and ‘Bandagi‘ are the only ones which give that ‘something different’ feel.
