MUMBAI: Slated to release on 12 February 2016, director Divya Khosla Kumar’s movie ‘Sanam Re’ is a Bollywood romantic drama starring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela. Less than two months to the movie release, the movie’s music distributor T-series, released the title track of the movie on its official channel and YouTube.
The track ‘Sanam Re’, composed by Mithoon, begins with Arijit’s never-disappointing vocals accompanied by an acoustic guitar to enhance the intro. Written by Mithoon, the lyrics express the sacrifices and promises the lover (Pulkit Samrat) makes in order to not lose his love. The song walks into a powerful progression, backed by electric guitars and the formula that never fails- the fusion of tabla, dholak and drums. The combination, although repeated by biggest of music directors in Bollywood earlier, neither sounds clichéd nor overused. Mithoon tries to keep the sound ‘young’ without cramming too many instruments for the sake of it, and along with an electric guitar and another acoustic solo. Mithoon joins Singh for the outro that ends on a very upbeat mood, contrary to how the song started. Musicians often play safe when big names and expectations are involved, but in this case, it’s quite evident the duo (especially Mithoon) used the attributes that they are known for, and delivered quite possibly one of the most refreshing songs before the end of the year 2015.
The track cannot be considered ‘unique’ or ‘path-breaking’, and neither the composer intended it to be, but Mithoon managed to give birth to yet another romantic track that would accomplish its motive – trust in relevant deep romantic lyrics. Arijit is one of the best vocalists in the country and Mithoon’s music ensured Singh adds another name in the countless number of tracks that defined him in its journey.

Mastered by Eric Pillai, the song does not lose its soul and intent, and Mithoon’s words deserve a lot of credit for this. The song epitomises how impeccable Singh sounds inside his comfort zone. Singh knows his strengths and Mithoon’s compositional abilities compliment the singer of ‘Fame’ and ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from 3G as examples of that.
Adding to the composition and production duties, Mithoon also provided his voice to the track and his partnership with Arijit Singh once again created the magic, first heard with the latter’s debut as a Bollywood singer for ‘Murder 2’ with the track ‘Phir Mohabbat’.
