Bollyboom 2017 attracted crowd but failed to get the right sound

MUMBAI: The city witnessed a lot of Holi parties early this week, but true madness took place at Bollyboom’s Holi bash. The dance music party was a seven-hour non-stop scintillating celebration with some glitches that even the drunken lot couldn’t miss but notice. But, the party went on.

There was a two-year hiatus in Percept Live’s ‘Bollyboom’, which is known as the world’s first Bollywood Electro Music Festival. The festival made a comeback in 2017 with Nucleya, DJ Chetas, DJ Amann and DJ Shireen on 13 March 2017 at Tulip Star, Juhu. Radioandmusic.com had the opportunity to attend the Holi celebration that made us dance to Bollywood beats.

With a perfect blend of Bollywood dance music and colours, we immersed ourselves in a carnival mood with multiple food courts and activity zones that served as good breaks for the dancing legs. The team at Percept took good care of the festival goers skin by providing eco-friendly colours. Living by the ‘Save water’ slogan the event kept itself water free. However, the music did face some disturbance courtesy the sound systems that continued to crack throughout the event.

The festival began with Bollyboom debutant artiste Chemical A9 and continued with well-known DJs and artistes. DJ Shireen played some popular numbers. DJ Amann’s pulsating mixes were good enough to make people crazy. There was a high-frequency blast from the monitors on the stage during Amann’s set, on the softer side, though.

Next act was by DJ Chetas, who retained his presence in the Best 100 DJs at DJ Mag’s list of Top 100 DJs. He played his hit numbers to enhance the energy of the second edition of Bollyboom. However, there was a problem with the sound again, and he had to stop his set in between. According to us, it was not the artiste’s fault as the set-up of the speakers and monitor on the stage went wrong. The problem was with the amplifiers, maybe, the microphone was too close to the speakers, and there was a ‘pink noise’ blast throughout Chetas’ set.

The headlining act was by none other than Nucleya. The sound team at Bollywboom tried fixing the sound issue before the DJ walked up the stage, but it did not help much. Nucleya’s set was kickass and he kept trying to interact with people, but frequency blast kept interrupting his act.

However, we danced till we couldn’t feel our feet anymore. Kudos to the people and DJs who performed despite technical issues.

We hope Percept scales the event in the coming years without compromising on the experience and quality as well.
