MUMBAI: Zee Classic, India’s only classic Hindi movie channel kick-started 2015 with a grand celebration. The channel, known to celebrate the life and work of evergreen artists and entertain its viewers with a vast library of greatest movies from the Golden Era, hosted a musical concert dedicated to the life and times of the country’s beloved music composer – R D Burman or Pancham Da as he is affectionately called, on 20th January, 2015.The Brooke Bond Taj Mahal presents RD Night witnessed renowned artists from the music fraternity come together to commemorate the unconventional legend & celebrate the life’s work of a man who irrevocably changed the world of music with his chart topping compositions.
Known as versatile and delightfully unpredictable, R D Burman is one of the greatest music personalities of the Hindi movie industry. The innumerable chartbusters like ‘Aaja aaja main hun pyar tera’, ‘Piya tu Ab toh Aaja’ and at the same time melodious numbers like ‘Tere bina zindagi se shiqwa’ or ‘Tujhse se naraz nahi’ have wowed millions of hearts. He is one of India’s most remarkable artists who through his music said so much that it left words unnecessary. Adding to his flamboyant personality, he also experimented with his vocal skills like in the track ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ that won him the sole Filmfare Awards nomination for his playback singing.
As a tribute to Pancham Da, the night of 20 January, 2015 saw, Babul Supriyo, Sudesh Bhosle with his son Siddhanta Bhosle, Javed Ali, Madhushree, Anvesha Dutta Gupta and Jaspinder Narula set ablaze the stage with some sensational performances. The concert was one its kind as the entire life journey of Pancham Da was showcased through interesting audio-visuals, making of songs, straight from the heart anecdotes shared by industry stalwarts.

Speaking on the occasion of Zee Classic’s special The Brooke Bond Taj Mahal presents RD Night, ZEEL Hindi Movie Channels deputy business head Ruchir Tiwari stated, “RD Burman is a legendary music composer and holds a special place in our hearts. His musical journey is imprinted in the minds of music lovers and continues to inspire today’s generation. With this concert, we paid a tribute to the musical genius and getting together leading music composers and singers who will recreate the magic called ‘Pancham da’ in their own unique way. The event also showcased some never-seen-before precious memorabilia of RD Burman at the Exhibition Centre. Some fond memories of Burman’s personal life that never saw the limelight like some unseen photographs, original letters written by Pancham Da, his kurta, glasses, mouthorgan and guitar among others were at display during the inauguration.
