MUMBAI: Conceptualised as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding vinyl and record stores, 2019 marks the 12th anniversary of Record Store Day.
On 13 April, the music community around the world including India will come together to celebrate vinyl, which has recently seen a global resurgence in sales and manufacturing.
Record Store Day is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store the staff, the customers, and the artists to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities.

Delhi-based online music magazine and events company, Wild City observes Record Store Day with a special one-day celebration called Selectors every year, where they invite vinyl enthusiasts and collectors to come and play their favourite records.
This year, Selectors rounds up some of the country’s best record stores like Revolver Club (in a special collaboration with Qilla Records) and one of India’s oldest record stores, New Gramophone House for one-of-a-kind record store fair at Auro Kitchen and Bar. Delhi’s Boxout.fm and Pagal Haina Records will also set up a stall.
Slated to start at 2 pm, Selectors’ line-up will feature DJs and music enthusiasts like the Boxout Soundsystem crew, Vikram Singh who also DJs as Mistress, UnMute founder Dev Bhatia, jazz musician and Global Music Institute founder Tarun Balani, global music label Amarrass Records co-founder and vinyl collector Ashutosh Sharma, Pattie Gonsalves, founder of NGO Music Basti and mental health initiative Its OK to Talk, Delhi-based human rights lawyer Ria Singh Sawhney, and Wild City founder Sarah Chawla.
Post 10 pm, the music will move indoors and will feature sets by Amarrass Records co-founder Ankur Malhotra and a special, yet-to-be-announced special guest.
