MUMBAI: Treating fans to his unique interpretation of house music, prolific artist and four-time Grammy nominated musical genius, Kenny Dope belted out some of his best-known hits spanning his twenty-five year tryst with the music industry. All of blueFROG at Lower Parel reverberated with his signature sound of house, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, funk & soul, reggae, alternative pop and broken beats leaving the audience wide-eyed and flushed from the pure energy of his musical prowess.
Kenny Dope, who has previously been nominated for a Grammy four times, began the evening addressing his audience for a Red Bull Music Academy session, moderated by Nick Dwyer. Dwyer has an extensive career in music journalism and media, and is known best for his acclaimed Red Bull Music Academy documentary series on Japanese video game music – ‘Diggin’ In The Carts’.

The first supporting act for the night was Norcotiq who set the tone nicely with an up-tempo set. Taking over from him was classic house and techno artist M.Mat whose multifaceted DJing style blended vintage dance music and fresh, elastic beats birthing sheer musical euphony. His set filled up the dance floor, paving the way for Kenny Dope, who took over console duties just past 11pm. Dope had the crowd eating from the palm of his hand from the word go. Mixing it up nicely, with some current beats following his signature old-school hip hop, following a serving of house music, he ensured the dance floor stayed packed through the evening. The night ended with the audience heading home in the highest of spirits, while Dope was quite humbled with the existence of a fan-base he had not anticipated.
