MUMBAI: Music enthusiasts in the city of Delhi were in for a treat as ‘Sound Reasons IV’ took place at Instituto Cervantes on Hanuman Road. Presented by Pro Helvetia – Swiss Arts Council and Instituto Cervantes, Sound Reasons IV brought together some of the best names in Electronic and Improvised music. Artists from diverse backgrounds were seen embracing this unique musical genre as they presented an experimental music evening. The festival featured performances by international and Indian artists: Gaudenz Badrutt, Metroscan, Hemant Sreekumar Grace Core and diFfuSed beats; making it an evening to remember.
The sounds that the artists produced on the day were distinctive. Whether it was Swiss musician Gaudenz Badrutt’s ability to make the audience feel the effect of his performance as a whole using little parts gathered through intense work done beforehand; or diFfuSed beats with their works synthesized out of sounds, noise and field recordings, both were captivating in their different approaches. Metroscan from Lithuania took the crowd to a different plane when they left people enthralled with the combination of their music with visuals to create an immersive experience. Grace Core captivated audiences with her hypnotic and retro-futuristic modern pop music; while the interesting blend of sounds then continued with Hemant Sreekumar who made “noise” sound good with his coded work. The musicians treated the audience with their well-crafted sound that was born out of improvisation and spontaneous structuring.
Speaking on supporting the festival for the fourth consecutive year Pro Helvetia – Swiss Arts Council director Chandrika Grover Ralleigh said, “Pro Helvetia is trying to build audiences for electronic music. It promotes Swiss artists despite the interestingly esoteric nature of their practice. Sound Reasons is a unique platform that encourages practitioners from across the world to collaborate and render music that is highly original. Since its inception, the festival tries to engage audiences with its unique compilation of sound art, contemporary jazz and electronic music. We have seen audience numbers increase with each edition and this encourages us to bring together artists that innovate and inspire through their work.”

Sound Reasons IV is scheduled to take place from December 2015 to January 2016 with performances and sound installation happening across various cities in India. Sound Reasons returns to Delhi in January 2016 with an exhibition of sound installations at Vadehra Art Gallery and Experimental Gallery India Habitat Centre on 4 January and 10 January respectively and a live performance at the Amphitheatre at the India Habitat Centre on 10 January, 2016.
