Aslam Hussain Khan hails from a family of hereditary musicians associated with the Hapur gharana. Having trained with his maternal uncle Altaf Hussain Khan of the Khurja gharana, he was groomed by his brother-in-law, Azmat Hussain Khan (alias Dilrang) of the Atrauli-Jaipur gharana.
