MUMBAI: Latest offering by ‘Ya Ali’ famed singer- Zubeen Garg is a new album inspired by 1972 classic film ‘Pakeezah’.
Garg who has invested six years into crafting the eight tracks of ‘Pakeeza’ (Times Music) considers his labour of love as his own ‘child’.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Garg says, “It is my dream project and my own child. I have taken so long to complete it. It’s an album with purpose and it’s not done in one month or so. I have worked for six years on this”

“I have penned the lyrics of track ‘Ke Kasha’. Earlier, I have written Assamese and Bengali lyrics but this will be the first time I have written lyrics in Hindi,” he further adds.
Pakeeza is Garg’s solo album which is based on lot experimentation and it will have a blend of north-east, western and Indian classical music. To promote the album, the Assamese pop star has shot three music videos in the picturesque north-east. The video of the title track ‘Pakeeza’ will be followed by two other videos from the album.
“Pakeeza was shot in a place called Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. It is beautiful place and I wanted to focus on the beauty of the place, so shot the video there. All the videos are different. There is one video where I am singing and dancing with 20-25 children and other video has more of a commercial look,” Garg said.
Sharing his view on the fall in the number of physical albums that are launched, Garg said, “There is gap in the music industry; there are no good albums. There is only film music that is going and we have to remember that there is a genre called album and that it should come out.”
“The album launch has disappeared. In reality, album gives you the freedom to deliver your style, tradition and culture and for film songs you are dictated the way to sing and that is the way you have to sing. I wish that more and more album should come up,” he added.
