MUMBAI: Sony music has eyed 15-20 per cent growth with the deal with Zee Music Company (ZMC). In the strategic world-wide digital deal, Sony Music will manage all digital assets for Zee Music’s Bollywood releases.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, India Sony music marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal said, “Sony music will start managing its digital assets from the film ‘Holiday’ and seven other sound tracks. We will look after radio and publishing.” Sony music will handle digital rights of films like Holiday, Bombay Velvet, Hamshakal, Hawa Hawaii, Guddu Rangeela, Bang Bang and Traffic, on behalf of Zee.
However, Youtube channel will be handled and monetised directly by ZMC. “We will be uploading and sharing in all other digital platforms, in addition to monetising the assets across channels like Yuclip, Dailymotion and Yahoo. Youtube is the only component that has been taken out,” Bhujabal added.

The tie up further extends to exploring publishing for Zee Music’s assets for the rest of the world through Sony/ATV. In couple of days, ZMC acquired soundtrack which will be made available in all digital platforms.
ZMC head Anurag Bedi said, “Partnering with Sony Music will be mutually beneficial as we have a robust slate for this year which includes about 20-25 films, all of which are produced by leading production houses.”
He further added that in the past Sony music has worked with leading content creators like YRF and Disney. This strategic association will provide a global foot print to all the prestigious releases. Talking about the revenue part of the deal, he said, “It is an equitable share. There is a minimum guarantee that has been confirmed and then there is a revenue share.”
Bhujabal added, “We are active on a copyright front. We have a running deal with Vishesh Films, Dharma Production, Illuminati Films and Fox Star Studios. We have copyright products signed for this year.”
