MUMBAI: YBR Records has signed on Brit-Asian solo artist Ajay for a worldwide deal. Instrumental in negotiating the album worldwide deal with T-Series new label, YBR Records was Ajay`s management Agency Global. YBR Records will promote and market Ajay as part of its Hindi non-film repertoire which includes artists Lata Mangeshkar, Adnan Sami and Sonu Nigam. Well known for his guitar work and self-penned hits Aaja Sajana, Kasam Se and Funki Dholi, the multi-talented performer now looks forward to a successful career in the Asian Sub-Continent. Says Vinay Sapru (CEO YBR Records, T-Series): “Ajay`s outstanding talents as an all round artist and live performer, mark him out as someone with huge potential in the sub continent. Ajay`s debut album Aaja Sajnaa, is a seductive global mix of funky urban beats, ethnic rhythms, bluesy guitar and hypnotic Asian melodies. Sung in Hindi, Punjabi and English, it features the smash hits Aaja Sajana and Funki Dholi as well as the new single Kasam Se.
The album features all original compositions by singer/songwriter and musician Ajay. A former session guitarist, Ajay turned professional after leaving school and has worked alongside artists across a variety of genres including Gregory Isaacs; Zakir Hussain; Jamiroquai; Apache Indian and DJ Ritu/Sister India.
The album transcends a number of genres to reflect a truly muti-cultural soundscape. Ajay`s rich vocals and distinctive guitar all the while provide each song with the necessary hooks and appeal that necessitate repeated listens.
The album is produced by The Jackal (Hypnotise Crew/Nite Jackal Productions); Niqi Brown (Misteeq, Damage) and Niraj Chag (Liberty X; Dum Dum Project). Ajay has been receiving consistent airplay support from key agencies such as BBC Asian Network, Club Asia and local BBC Radio networks as well as MTV Asia and MTV Desi.
Born and raised in London, AJAY has worked alongside artists such as Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Gregory Isaacs, Zakir Hussain, Apache Indian and DJ Ritu/Sister India.
Ajay describes his musical style as a hybrid of “every note I ever heard, fused into the sound of a 3 minute single.” With a focus on funky beats and hypnotic melodies, he has developed an infectious guitar based sound that is all his own. Fluent in both English Punjabi and Hindi/Urdu AJAY writes all his own lyrics and produces original music.
