MUMBAI: He was not a debutant on the reality platform when Colors Infinity’s ‘The Stage’ happened to him. He had been through that route before most of his competitors did, despite being the youngest of them all. The 19-year-old saw a sky rocketing career and huge pitfall soon after he appeared in the singing reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa li’l Champs’.
Like most reality stars Ratnum became a star overnight and went on to do stage shows, but soon all the glitz and glamour moved away from him. He was just an ordinary boy trying hard to deal with the change in his voice that held him back from singing for a year and depression. “I was really young when ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ happened to me. My voice was that of a sweet boy and then suddenly it was more mature. I did not know how to sing with it. It was a tough phase for me. All the media attention was gone and I was left with myself,” narrated Ratnum.
However, he believes that now is the good time to move away from the shadows of the past as he has conquered it all. ‘The Stage’ got him the lost fame once again, as also the hope to establish a shining career on the international platform. December, 2015 marked a new beginning in Ratnum’s life as he not just won ‘The Stage’ but also bagged a music deal with Universal Music, a Renault car, and a 10 city tour.

Currently he is busy working on his song for Universal Music. “I have my base in Indian classical music, hence, I have worked around a song that will have a touch of Indian classical, and yet be global,” stated the singer.
While, most in Ratnum’s place would have been busy celebrating their victory, at present, he is busy working on himself. He is working on his body, voice and looks, as he believes that it all counts in showbiz. “I am working with vocal coaches to improve my singing. I want to do a lot better than this,” said the ‘The Stage’ winner.
This year is indeed a remarkable one for this Banarasi boy, as his movie ‘Blue Mountains’ starring Ranvir Shorey and Gracy Singh too is set to release sometime soon. Ratnum has not just sung for the film, but he has also acted in it. The film has been directed by Suman Ganguly and has already won an award at the Hyderabad International Film Festival. The story revolves around a boy from a small town who gets onto a reality show, but life post the win does not seem easy. Something similar to what Ratnum faced in his younger days. The films set for a theatrical release sometime soon.
