MUMBAI: Either to revisit the good old memories or simply expressing gratitude, no matter what the purpose is, a tune about friendship always strikes the perfect (and an emotional) chord with its listeners.
Following in the footsteps, Padmanabhan NS or Paddy, guitarist and vocalist of the popular cover band ‘One Night Stand’, teamed up with his school friends to create a composition, aptly and simply titled ‘Yaari’. Paddy, a Don Bosco Matunga passed out student from the 1987 batch, “with a little help from friends” composed the original song for the batch’s reunion under the act name ‘4ENDS’. The song releases today on 10 March under Achille Forler-owned Silk Road record label.
Along with Padmanabhan, his batch mates, too, have lent their vocals to the song that falls under ‘world’ music genre. In linear to its title, the lyrics and composition revolve around the ideals of simplicity and nostalgia and the bond they share three decades after the conclusion of their academics at the Don Bosco School. While Paddy handled the compositional and guitar duties all alone, Rajiv Iyer shared the lyrical and vocal responsibilities with the ‘One Night Stand’ member. Batch mates Natraj Sharma, Davinder Singh Sodhi, Shakeel Patel and Bhuvan Kimji joined Paddy and Rajiv for the vocals.

Padmanabhan, also the National Music Head at Radio City and a regular performer in Mumbai’s live circuit, created a music video – edited by Madhu Pawar – for the composition featuring the batch mates and the black-and-white photographs of some of the memorable events from the school during the late 1980s.
The intention behind ‘Yaari’ suggests the sheer love and adoration for these ex-Don Bosco students, and the lyrics stand as a proof for the same. The music video, mostly shot in Goa, shows Paddy and his friends indulge in several outdoor activities, games and celebration in a pleasant attempt to recreate the same enthusiasm and energy that existed thirty years ago.
‘Yaari’, although involved contributions from the students of the 1987 batch’, extends its admiration for the reputed school, formed in 1942, and its relatable lyrics manage to create a nostalgic moment for the listener and anyone who still cherishes the friendships found during the school years.

The students from Don Bosco Matunga’s 1987 batch reunited last month and found a musical way to express their bonding for each other and gratitude towards their alma mater three decades after they bid adieu to the school.
The batchmates hit the studio to record a song for the occasion “Yaari : The Reunion Song” specially written by Rajiv Iyer and NS Padmanabhan, or ‘Paddy’ as the ace-guitarist of popular rock band “One Night Stand” is known. The entire batch performs the infectious song under the apt name 4ENDS. The very moving video, mostly shot in Goa, beautifully captures the emotions of friends who went their different paths and met with different fates but reunite after a 30-year hiatus to celebrate a joyous friendship and shared memories.
