MUMBAI: Those who grew up in the 90s, cannot get over the song ‘Woh Kaun Thi’. Singer of the peppy track, Jojo is back with a bang after a hiatus of more than a decade. He made his comeback into the live rock scene again with his old bandmates from the band Shiva, but now with a twist.
In the 90s pop music culture in India was flourishing with peppy songs along with emotive videos. Jojo, entered the music scene around this time. He was in his teens when he formed Shiva once popular Kolkata-based band. However, when Shiva disbanded, Jojo shifted base to Mumbai.
Apart from the regular, Shiva set compromises of retro, pop, rock, blues, and funk. The new line-up will also be doing a muddle up of Bollywood and Jojo’s super hit originals in their own style, making it a perfect contemporary tribute to the legacy of Shiva mashed up with Bollywood classics. Hence, expect the unexpected. The line-up comprises Jojo Nathaniel on vocals, Sumith Ramachandran on guitars, Willie Walters on bass guitars, Avik Ganguly on keyboards, Jeffrey Rikh on drums and backing vocals.

Shiva stormed the country and beyond in the 1980’s and 1990’s, being one of those bands that had a cult following in that era. Many of today’s super-bands like Parikrama, Indus Creed (earlier Rock Nation), supported Shiva back in those days. Jojo and Shiva re-launched themselves at THE Festival, Kolkata, supporting the US- Indo progressive rock band Skyharbor on 2 December 2016.
In that addition, the song ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ featuring Jimmy Shergill was sung by Jojo Nathaniel, music composed by Tabun Sutradhar and lyrics penned by Rajesh Johr.

However, the track has a strong resemblance to the song with the same name ‘Woh Kaun Thee’ by Vital Signs, a Pakistan pop and rock band formed in 1986 and disbanded in 2002. The song ‘Woh Kaun Thee’ was from Aitebar, the third album of Vital Signs. The original song was sung by the frontman of the band, Junaid Jamshed, who died on 7 December 2016 (aged 52) in a plane crash while returning to Islamabad.
