MUMBAI: Better late then never. At the Palm India Expo 2009, six recording artistes/technicians where given recognition by WIMPTSEA (Western Indian Motion Pictures Television Sound Engineers Association) at the hands of filmmaker Subhash Ghai, General Secretary of WIMPTSEA Dinesh Chaturvedi and Anil Chopra on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghai said, Film as we know is an â€?audio’- visual medium and sound technicians, I feel, are not just technicians but artistes who enhance the storytelling…. The award was presented to those who have rendered more than 25 years of their life as a sound engineer
In a rather low-key ceremony, awards were given to Kuldip Sud, Madan Prakash, Jagmohan Anand, Navin Chandra B Shah, Dilip Sawant and Uday Inamati.
The recognition and award should have come much earlier,… expressed Ghai before giving away the awards.
Oscar wining sound engineer Resul Pokutty’s name was mentioned several times at the do, The award he received is for this entire sound family, it’s recognition for our Bollywood way of working on sound,… said WIMPTSEA senior member Anil Chopra.
Awardees
Kuldip Sud
Kuldip Sud is considered to be one of india’s first professionally trained Sound Recordist. He graduated from FTII in 1964 sound recording and engineering. Some of his memorable contributions were working on the post production of â€?Sholay’ for which he worked on the earliest 35mm magnetic tapes. He had won filmfare for Khuda Gawah and Zee Cine Award for Bagbaan. Sud is presently working at sound city as Chief Recording Engineer.
Madan Prakash
Madan Prakash has been working in the industry for 37 years, a gold medalist from FTII, Prakash has also been the Jury member for Film Fare Award, Zee Cine Awards, Screen awards and Indian Television Academy Award.
Jagmohan Anand
Jagmohan Anand graduated from FTII in 1977. Anand has also won Zee Cine award for best Sound Recording for Daag in 2009 and the Indy’s award for Cheeni Kum in 2008. Anand has been working in the industry for close to 32 years.
Navin Chandra B Shah
Navin Chandra B Shah started as a freelancer joined the film industry in 1966 and worked in Famous Studio till 1969. Shah has completed 42 years of his service and recorded for many well-known films.
Dilip Sawant
Dilip Sawant joined the film industry in 1968 as an Assistant Sound Recordist, his forte is working for multilingual films. Sawant has completed 32 years of service.
Uday Inamati
Uday Inamati completed his pre degree in arts but his interest in sound urged him to join the Film industry. He has worked on number of films like Ghayal, Apne, Ashiqui and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
